FAQS
Answers to the questions moms ask most.
Everything you might want to know before your evaluation, from visits and payment to Katy's training. If your question isn't here, Katy is happy to answer it.
Getting started
Before you reach out.
-
If it involves pain, pregnancy, postpartum recovery or your pelvic floor, there's a good chance she can. Send her a note about what's going on, and she'll be honest about whether she's the right fit and what your next step should be.
-
Good news! Maryland is a direct-access state, so you don't need a prescription or referral to see a physical therapist. Some insurance companies do require one for reimbursement, so if you plan to submit your visits, it's worth checking your plan's policy.
-
Katy has specialized training in pelvic health on top of more than ten years in orthopedic rehab. That mix means she understands how your pelvic floor works with the rest of your body.
-
Katy may still be able to come to you. Send a quick note with your zip code and she'll let you know. Katy also takes virtual visits on a case by case basis. Reach out for a consult.
Visits and care
What visits are like.
-
Yes! Petite Physio is a fully mobile practice. Katy arrives at your home with a portable treatment table and all the equipment needed for an effective session.
-
Katy arrives with everything you'll need. Each session starts with your concerns and goals, then she looks at how you move, how you use your core, and your overall strength and mobility. She also considers things like stress, sleep and the demands on your day.
For pelvic health visits, Katy may recommend an internal pelvic floor assessment, but that's always your choice, and there's plenty she can assess and treat without one. From there, treatment may include hands-on techniques, mobility work, muscle retraining, strengthening, relaxation strategies, dry needling and exercises chosen for your body.
-
Of course! Little ones are always welcome. Katy knows how hard it is to balance caring for yourself with caring for your kids, so sessions can move to the floor alongside them. She's also happy to hold a baby so you can focus on you.
-
Katy's pelvic health services are for women, with specialized care for pregnancy, postpartum recovery and pelvic floor concerns at every age. Orthopedic physical therapy is open to everyone, for pain, injuries, mobility and getting back to the activities you love.
-
Every plan is different and based on your goals, needs and progress. Some patients reach their goals in just a few sessions, while others benefit from more support over several weeks or months. Katy builds your plan from what she finds at your evaluation and adjusts it as you respond to treatment.
PAYMENT
INSURANCE AND RATES.
-
Petite Physio is a concierge practice, so payment is due at the time of each visit. Katy provides the paperwork you need to submit for reimbursement from your insurance company, and HSA and FSA cards are welcome too.
If you have questions about payment, you can reach Katy at 301-244-9478.
-
Rates depend on the type of visit. Katy shares clear pricing during your consult call, before you book anything.
dry needling
About dry needling.
-
Most people feel a quick pinch or a muscle twitch, followed by relief. Katy checks in with you the whole time, and you can stop whenever you want.
-
They use similar thin needles, but dry needling is based on muscle anatomy and targets the specific spots that are causing your pain and tension.
Concierge physical therapy
